7 Ways to Support Open Doors Without Donating Money
You don’t have to open your wallet to help open doors for someone in need. At Open Doors Foundation KC, we know that compassion comes in many forms — and every gesture matters.
Here are seven me
aningful, low-cost (or no-cost!) ways to support our mission and bring hope to neighbors experiencing homelessness:
1. Share our posts on social media
A simple share can go a long way. By posting our updates, donation needs, or success stories, you help raise awareness and invite others to get involved.
2. Host a mini donation drive
Gather gently used coats, hygiene items, or socks from friends, coworkers, or your faith community. It doesn’t have to be huge — even a small box of essentials makes a difference.
3. Volunteer your time
Time is one of the most precious gifts. From sorting donations and serving meals to helping at events, there are many ways to lend a hand. Even an hour a week helps us keep our operations running smoothly.
4. Be an advocate
Learn the facts about homelessness in Kansas City and share them in conversations. Help dispel myths and shift perceptions from judgment to empathy.
5. Write letters or cards of encouragement
Kind words matter. Simple, handwritten notes can be shared with guests to remind them they’re not alone and that someone believes in them.
6. Invite us to speak
If you’re part of a club, workplace, or faith group, invite Open Doors staff to share about our mission. These talks help spread awareness and often inspire new partnerships.
7. Add us to your RaiseRight Program
Choose Open Doors as your preferred charity on shopping platforms that give back, like RaiseRight. Over time, those small percentages add up and help keep our doors open.
Every act of kindness builds hope
Not everyone can give financially, and that’s okay. What matters most is your willingness to see, to care, and to act.
At Open Doors, we believe that change starts small — one conversation, one coat, one shared story at a time. Together, these small steps become the bridge to big transformations.
If you’d like to learn more about any of these ideas or get involved, contact us now. We’d love to hear from you — because it truly takes a community to open doors and keep them open.
